Doug McArthur

Doug McArthur is Professor and Distinguished Fellow in Public Policy in the Graduate Program in Public Policy at Simon Fraser University.  Prior to that he was Senior Fellow and Special Assistant to the President at the University of British Columbia.

Doug McArthur teaches the theory and practice of government and the public policy process each year to masters students in the graduate program.  He also teaches courses in aboriginal policy and negotiations.  His writing and research includes work on forestry, aboriginal, human resources, economic and political policy issues.

Prior to joining the university, he worked in government in a variety of positions, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Deputy Minister of Northern Saskatchewan and Minister of Education in Saskatchewan.  In British Columbia he served as Deputy Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Deputy Minister to the Premier, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Public Service. He has also been Secretary to the Executive Council and Chief Land Claims negotiator in Yukon.

He has worked in Pakistan and Afghanistan and written on governance and development in those countries.

He is a director of Sierra Club BC Foundation, and formerly a member of the Board of Friends of the Earth Canada.
