Vancouver is served by 3 watersheds – Coquitlam, Seymour and Capilano. Coquitlam was built to supply water to residents when the other two silt up – as they regularly do during heavy rainfall events. You just switch over. Then Coquitlam watershd was taken off line (from our water supply) to ensure penstock flow into Buntzen Lake for power generation, All of which I understand is committed for export. Others like Will Koop are the experts here. My understandings are based on conversations with municipal engineers who guided a series of three GREAT watershed tours perhaps 10 years back.

Our water is on the auction block. An many Vancouverites boil their water this fall and winter (silt acts like a pathogen bus) they must remember that this is only one of the results of decisions made by short sighted politicians to sell off one of this provinces greatest resources – our free flowing rivers.
